The Environmental Dimension of Health at JMU (4/6/21)
This synchronous virtual program will provide real examples of ways you can become more informed about environmental sustainability challenges and engaged in solutions to help build sustainable future during your JMU experience. From exploring where our food comes from in the Shenandoah Valley to maintaining trails in Redwood National Park, see how your peers and professors are engaging with environmental issues from locally to globally, both inside and outside the classroom, and how you could, too.
Did you know?
• President James Madison, Father of the Constitution, was referred to as the forgotten father of American environmentalism.
• JMU has ten LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified buildings.
• Over 160 faculty members conduct research and other scholarly activities related to sustainability.
JMU is committed to being the change at work and in the world. Student, faculty, and staff partners across the university collaboratively work to build an environmentally literate community whose members think critically and act, individually and collectively, as model stewards of the natural world. In particular, building sustainable community through partnerships, outreach, and service is part of our culture and something that is valued by students. Participate in this synchronous, interactive program to explore individual, group, and institutional environmental sustainability efforts to drive change and create new solutions. The program is led by JMU's ISNW staff who coordinate the collaborative efforts of JMU to pursue environmental stewardship and sustainability, and a broader sense of citizenship. The program includes a narrated video highlighting some of the many JMU people and programs working to improve the environment; as well as a synchronous conversation to explore how environmental stewardship is and can be integrated into our lives.
